Transanale 3D-sonography in the diagnosis of Fistula-in-ano
Transanale 3D-sonography is one of the best diagnostic and therapeutic imaging methods for
fistula-in-ano. It gives diagnostic accuracy of 63-94% for the classification of the primary tract
and gives the accuracy of prediction of the site of the Internal opening as high as 93%. It is minimally
invasive and the extent of anal sphincter damage can be assessed.
This transanale endo sonography is one of the standard examinations in preoperative
diagnostics and operative planning, especially for complicated fistula-in ano. The course of the
anal fistula and its side passages piercing the sphincter is shown well.
In the case of recurrent fistula, it is important to find out, in addition to the cryptoglanduric
genesis, other reasons, like abscesses, in the course of the disease.
In our practice, during the 3D sonography, the fistula is instilled with H2O2 solution and the
entire course of the fistula tract is shown. The 3-dimensional technology distinguishes the
sectional image diagnostics.
